Precious moments

This morning I woke up to some sobering news.  Blogger, Baby Boy Bakery, and her husband lost their little man a few days ago.  Even though I don't know the family personally, I felt their loss deeply.  My heart and prayers go out to them.

We are only gifted a certain number of moments with the ones we love, and today, in particular, that thought has been at the forefront of my mind.

Thank God for family.  Thank God for my husband.  Thank God for little boys.  Thank God for good friends.  Thank God for all the hard days, the mundane days, the days I don't always say thank you for, the happy days, and the sad days.  I pray that I never take a single moment for granted.

Why?

  • Why is it that whenever someone asks me, "what's new and exciting in your life?!" I draw a blank, but I still can't find the time to shower daily... or write (clearly)?

Sloppy mom hair... only moderately care.  (face cropped for your own protection)
  • Why is it still gorgeous weather.. in Yuma... in May?!  Hey, no complaints here.  Just asking.
  • Why can't I treat myself to these beautious items that I very clearly NEED for the upcoming wedding season?  Yes.  NEED.

Alexander McQueen... It can be yours for the low, low price of $1495 :(
Do I really need to tell you why I can't buy a new pair of red soles?

  • Why  is this kid so freaking cute?

Another day in the life

Today TWO exciting things happened.  I emphasize the "two" because, usually, zero exciting things happen.
  • Thing #1 - I did our taxes all by myself for the very first time!  Pathetic since I have my degree in accounting, but when your dad does it for a living... well, what can I say?  Anywho, I took a stab at it this year, and guess what.  We are getting a nice, big, fat, juicy refund!
  • Thing #2 - I made this delicious, but not very nutritious, chocolate peanut butter pie for T today.  It was an absolute breeze to make, and it turned out perfect!  I am not a fan of chocolate and peanut butter (blasphemy, I know), but T said it was amazing.  I also dropped Starbucks off to him this morning since he had to work all night.  2 points for me.

As a side note, I am obsessed with Ree Drummond aka "the Pioneer Woman's" recipes.  They are, as a general rule, not terribly labor intensive, and they are so incredibly delicious.  Check her out if you're ever craving some delicious eats.

And now, dear friends, I am spent.  Especially after being woken up at 5am by my incredibly annoying neighbor.  Seriously, Harley riders, it should be illegal for you to start/drive those things in residential areas before 7am.

bon nuit to all.

Girls Night Out

I just sneezed and peed a little in my pants.  Oh the joys of pregnancy. Note to self: start kegals again.

My gloriously thoughtful and kind parents offered to hang out with Russdoggie tonight so my oldest little sister and I could spend some quality time.  As it is a Lenten Friday (no meat for us!) and we live in small town USA, we had an interesting time coming up with ideas for dinner.  Sushi was obviously our first choice, but alas, mystery baby put the kibosh on that.  We settled on soup and salad at Olive Garden... Note: we left the house at 6:02pm... It was so great to chat it up and unabashedly shovel garlicy, buttery BREADSTICKS into my mouth.  Afterwards, we strolled around Old Navy and Famous Footwear.  I walked away with the below items for the Russellbox.

I swore I would never be a croc supporter (I just do not find them aesthetically pleasing!!!), but Russell has tried to snatch his buddy Luke's crocs every time we have a play date, so here they sit in my living room.  After picking these bad boys up, we headed home... Arrived home at 9:55pm...  Now here we sit watching Celebrity Wide Swap.

How drastically my life has changed in three years, and what terribly happy changes they have been.

Girls' night today.
Girls' night a few years ago.

The adventure is just beginning

My husband (henceforth know as "T")  got to go to Vegas this weekend for what he is calling a "man date."  You know, booze, gambling, March Madness, the sports book, etc etc.  I am, of course, sad to lose his nice ass and calming presence for the weekend, but I was also a little excited.  Three glorious nights all to myself!  You fellow moms will understand the perfection that is that oh so rare "alone time."  Our 18 month old son is seriously the picture of perfection and cuteness (said every mom EVER), but really he is, and as previously mentioned, T is just a peach, but ohhhhhhh to have a moment to do something selfish!  Well, it's been a while.  It's been a particularly long while since I sat down to write.  So as I mulled over the myriad activities I had to choose from on this fine spring evening, writing sounded particularly appealing.  I'm not an especially talented writer, but it feels good to let my thoughts see the light of day (or rather the glow of the computer screen).   Plus it's a little thrilling to think someone out there might read, relate to, and take enjoyment from my piece of mind!

Cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeese!
So here I sit: PJs on, lights turned low, candles lit (calm down.  I'll keep it PG), dreaming of a nice glass of pinot.  Oh, yes.  I forgot to mention - we're having another bambino.  Due in early September.  No, we don't know the sex yet, but come next Thursday, the mystery will be solved!

Anywho, perhaps you'd like an introduction?  Well you're getting one if you read on.  There is me, myself and I along with T, Russell and mystery baby.  We also have a loyal, loving, all around bad-ass 8 year old Queensland Heeler (Rory) - perhaps you'll get her full story one day - and a cat.  I really do love the cat (Kody) just as much as Rorydog, but he is currently in my bad graces due to an unspeakable present he brought me earlier today... a 1/2 dead bird.  Yes, only 1/2 dead, and still able to fly.  Sort of.  I'm sorry; it was too gross not to share...  T is a Marine so we pull up roots and move every so often.  Currently, we're in lil ole Yuma, AZ which just so happens to be my hometown!  Lovely to be near family, especially when babysitters don't come cheap now-a-days.  And I, I am just me - dreamer, reader of books, aspiring gardener, occasional gym goer, wife and MomaBear.
I call this, "boy and dog"

Until next time, friends.

** As a side note, I work remotely for this great company - I know working remotely sounds cool.  Well it is, but it's also ridiculously annoying when your internet won't support more than one program at a time which is what is currently happening.  Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
